I must be getting old
« on: September 11, 2010, 10:43:53 PM »
G'day Guys and girls,

The missus and I came up with a plan this afternoon, one that was years overdue. We thought we might grab the junior ferals and head off to Chinatown for a feed and a sticky beak around George street. My sneaky intent was to check every alley be it a dark one or lit up with bells and whistles for a pin or two. Boy was I disappointed! "Galaxy world" was very foreign, to these what I am now considering old bones, to say the least. After circumnavigating the place and being blown away by the intense 3D gaming I cheekily asked one of the lads when was the last time they had a pin in there. He made comment to the fact that they had one, be it to my astonishment as I missed it amongst the shooting, maiming and killing. He walked us over to a Stern Batman and proceeded to swipe in a credit for me, to which I was extremely grateful. So play I did, even scoring a free game with a good score and all the while being drowned out by the technology that has left me behind, coupled with the princess of darkness voicing her disapproval - this is not a new revelation. The George street cinema complex that I did not recognise when I walked in had a similiar story in that amongst all the intensity there was one Stern Grand Prix. It only seems like yesterday that I was surrounded by chimes and bells, hanging out in my Stubbies, burning my fingers juggling hot chips out of their paper wrapped fortress and chugging it all down with a Strawberry Moove. At nearly 40 up until tonight I didn't think I was that old, but I'll tell you what I wouldn't swap it for todays chaos for quids. Enough rubbish for now, time to grab a Coopers, shove Mad Max in the VCR, only kiiding I have evolved slightly - correction DVD, and head on back to my youth, hanging on like a mongrel and not letting go. Happy slappin all.................................

I'm not surprised. On the flipside, my nieces and nephews love playing my pins and the Wii / consoles hardly attract any attention at my place. I certainly have no idea what is "out there" and what kids play in terms of coin op.

I'm "old school" and bloody proud of it. Sometimes I watch the kids play pinball and they get more excersize flipping then they do sitting on their ass playing consoles and vids. What I REALLY like is the fact that they DO show an appreciation for Pinball, sometimes you have to expose them to as many pins as possible to attain their interest. "Oh that's how you do it.."

My 6 year old can name over 100 pins and tell you what toys are on what pinball. Brings tears to my eyes.

Isn't that the truth Ric - Haven't seen a decent Bally/Williams on site for a while!

My local cinema has "half" a junkyard to play. (Half the stuff on it is missing or not working)

Wonder what all the new Sterns will be like in 5-6yrs from now?

I can see the Z......o family tradition continuing for a little while yet!  @@*

My Kids also love the Pinballs still and if they go somewhere they always come home and tell what was where and name of the pinball and the wife is the same although she does feel abit geeky doing it for me @@*

Bloody near impossible finding a pinball on site as the moneys in these crane games and ticket despensing machines I think.
