Grounding wire
« on: October 09, 2010, 01:35:20 PM »
Does anyone know where I can buy some grounding wire (for an EM machine)? I've seen some on a US site called pin rescue, but I'm hoping to get this from Australia. ... also I've heard that "copper braided" wire is better than that which was originally used... has anyone used this type?

Also, I'm looking for a dozen of the small rivets which are used on 0-9 units. I got some from Pinball Resource, but now I realise that I'll need a few more than I bought. .... As each order from PR means the Aust. banks will charge about $25.00 for writing out a draft?? (I personally find this "fee" really offensive, and no wonder a lot of folks have taken their money elsewhere), ... I am hoping to find these rivets here in Australia.

Any advice or tips will be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Mark - Are you referring to cabinet ground wire, or playfield ground wire ?

Pinrestore.com sell both and for "hard to find" parts, you sometimes have to bite the bullet. "Marty Machine" was looking at an equivalent product a while ago.

Rivets are really hard to find locally. I just buy them from overseas. Sorry - I don't have any spares at this time.

The grounding wire is for the head. It's the wire that's attached to all the light sockets in the backbox. .... What's " TPF" (I guess I should know, but I don't.) .... Mark

Checkout somewhere like Jaycar, RS, Furnell etc for tinned stranded wire, you may find a roll that is insulated and just strip the insulation from it.  If it's tinned it will be silver colour.  You want it to have a current rating higher than the GI fuse , typically 10A for GTB EM or just eyeball it for the same size wire.

...In the end I bought it from Pin Restore in the USA. He has some pics of the wire, and other useful stuff for restoring pinballs. He was also easy to deal with. I think there's a pic of the grounding wire I bought on my Kings & Queens thread in 'restorations'.

That's where I bought mine from. Seems to be the only place that carries it.
