DE - Green Coin Door Button Not Working
« on: March 25, 2011, 12:58:43 PM »
Guys,

I just picked up a GnR machine and the green audit/diagnostic button isn't working. Wiring is firmly attached. I buzzed the button itself and get a tone when it is up and then no tone when it is down so I assuming that the button is actually working. I also buzzed the wires attached to both buttons from the buttons themselves to the connector at the driver board and got a tone for all of them. I haven't pulled the driver board out to check traces and header pins on the back of the board.

This one has got me stumped at the moment. I am trying to avoid swapping coin doors which will be a PITA but I need to get into the audits & adjustments to put it on free play, 5 ball and the like but it is stuck in diagnostics and I can't go backwards at all by activating the green button.

Any thoughts or ideas? This is the first time I have come across this problem.

Cheers.
Blair

The switch feels spot on and is wired up the same as another GnR machine.  I might bite the bullet and remove a button from another machine and put it in this machine and see what happens.

Any fury green ICs on CPU board mate?

I will check some schematics when I get home from work. If switch buzzes when you press it and not when off I would say switch is ok as they either work or don't. Do a visual to make sure nothing has pinched near coin door or headbox.

Are the IDC connectors making good contact on CN14 on CPU board?

You've checked continuity, so I guess we can rule out a wiring issue from at least the diagnostic button to CN14.

Maybe if you can swap the CPU board from the spare GNR you have (lucky bugger) and see if the problem stays with you..

Now if I'm reading the schematics correctly - for the right switch which is not working - that should be the up/down button which is pin 4 on CN14.

Check R8 and R7 for starters..(Ohm) and what voltages are you getting at R8 & R5...Should be close to 5vDC...

I just checked my SW and it was about 4.88 vDC

Update - swapped over coin doors and all is good.  The coin door button that didn't want to work is working fine on another machine and the new coin door is working fine on the machine that had the problem.......uhh I think that's right.

For anyone interested, I will have 2 x GnR machines for sale in the next week or two.  I would like to sell them as working project machines, I am just trying to nut through a few things at the moment.  If all goes to plan, they will need a clean, re-rubber etc.  Shoot me a PM for more details if you are interested.  Price will depend on how much I end up spending to get the machines running to an acceptable level.
