System reporting this switch 48 is down. I had a look and the led lights ok when a ball passes but it does not register in the switch test. Wiggled the plug and I think I got it to register but can't be sure as I cannot get it to do it again to confirm.

Reflowed solder etc but no go. I noticed lots of corrosion on the component side on the ic as well. What's he prognosis guys. Need a new one if I can find one or is it the old plug syndrome again?

If you have re flowed the pins I'd try replacing the connector pins rob.

Rob - it is a fiddly board to get right. I prop my playfield up, and turn the potentiometer to it's highest sensitivity and it should register when you place the ball in the vicinity. The light on the board should be on (from memory). This means that the switch will ALWAYS detect the ball.

Then turn the potentiometer the other way, and when the light JUST switches from on to off, it should detect the ball correctly.

Do what Nino said and if it keeps going out of adjustment just change the pot,have had to do this on more than one occassion

Thanks guys. I quick update. I did as advised and if I run a ball or metal over the sensor the light activates, but does not register on the system. If I wiggle the pot, the light can also come on then off.

Do you think it's a pot or main connector problem? The sensor is hard wired to the pcb by the way, but the connector back to the switch matrix is not

Check for breaks in the wire. Sounds like a connector issue as the ball triggers the sensor. Within the switch matrix, does the switch before and after (column and row) register ?
