Labeling pcb connectors
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:28:14 PM »
In the past I have labelled connectors on the wpc board etc using tape and a pen. I would wrap the tape around the wires. I thought I'd use a dymo and stick the labels directly on the connector plugs.

My question is can anyone see a reasonable problem with doing so. My main consideration at the moment is the heat generated from some connectors. Can you see this as being a problem ie. catching fire etc?

I think you should be right rob if your connectors get hot enough to catch the tape on fire you have some major issues.

When I used to label connectors, I just used a sharpie (felt tip marker, popular in the US, but not sure about the rest of the world) on the edge of the connector. When reinstalling, a little alcohol on a rag wipes it right off.

"Sharpie" brand markers are sold in Australia but a more popular brand is "Nikko" - that's all I do as well - I use a Nikko to write on the edge of the connector "P112" etc.

And +1 to that.  Saves having to write them on again in the future.
