POTC ship problem
« on: July 07, 2012, 10:09:24 AM »
I picked up a POTC yesterday a HUO,1 owner machine with only 400 games on it.All was going great until when the ship is hit it does not register that it has been. When it is hit the ball is usually held there for a bit by the magnet or pop up post i am not sure as i was not really looking at what holds it there, but when it is hit now it just comes straight back down.Is the small red light up in that area an opto that registers a hit and activates that it has been hit and in turn gets the magnet ect to hold .Any help would be great,Thanks Tony.

Also depending on settings, the pop up post will not always activate.  It is there to reduce the difficulty of game play.  My machine is set so that it activates for the first round until the ship is sunk, after that the ball drops straight back down.

try the obvious things first such as the switch and coil test, check that no wires have dropped off anywhere and clean the optos as well.

Thanks for your help guys,i checked for any loose wires ect an all looked ok.I reseated the 2 opto plugs and it is working fine.I have played a dozen games since and all seems good.As i have never played this game before could you just confirm for me that all is working as it should. The first time i am going for the ship after 3 hits the ship starts rocking until i hit it the 4th time then it lowers all the way. After i have lowered it the first time and am going for it again after the 4th hit the ship rocks backward and forward but does not lower all the way as it leaves enough room to shoot the ball through as it rises but not enough as it comes back down.Is this a type of skill shot as i do not know what mode i was in ect.I am very impressed with this pin as not only does it look great it plays great as well, there is a lot to shoot for and the toys suit this game and the sound and lighting are also spot on.I have played some of the so called higher end pins and this is way better in my opinion.Thanks.

Sounds about right. After each time you sink the ship, it takes more hits to sink it the next time. I wouldn't say it is a skill shot of sorts as each time the ball goes up to the ship it activates the logo switch and would count as hitting the ship.

Pirates is a very nice machine to look at and play, enjoy!
