Replacement Speaker for a Firepower
« on: October 10, 2012, 11:33:04 PM »
Hi All

I'm fairly certain the speaker in my Firepower is buggered.

Just wondering what people generally replace with?
Had a google and a poke around pinside without too much luck/info

Found this at Jaycar - would it do the job???  Slightly bigger though.

Found this too

If the original speaker is 4 ohm impedance then the Jaycar one should be ok to use.

The problem is if the original is 8 ohm, and you use a 4 ohm you risk destroying the audio amp IC on the soundboard, especially if the volume is turned up loud due to the fact that the amp tries to put out more power into a lower impedance than it may be capable of.

Pretty sure the standard speaker is 8 ohm from memory.

I went all out and put a Pinball Pro speaker in mine , was about $105 shipped but I think it was worth it . Expensive option for you tho.
I need more room ! and more $$$

Wrong link in my original post.

Great to hear Firepower making all the right noises.
Just need to get my pinballlife order to turn up and she'll be back in action!  $#$

Yup - that's 8R so all is good.

You can always use an 8R speaker in any application - even to replace a 4R, possibly the sound level would be slightly lower but I doubt you would notice it and the level is easily cranked up to compensate anyway.
