Stern External Volume Control
« on: March 16, 2013, 11:10:05 AM »
A guy in the US has been working on finalising a very neat external volume control switch for late-model Stern pinball games. This control fits in the cabinet "tournament" button hole directly below the start button.

The switch itself is single clean up/down rocker: push it up to increase the volume, push it down to lower the volume. Nice part is that the switch is fully recessed in the opening.

Installation is 100% plug and play: Remove the existing blank plug (in our case in Aus many of these will be connected with a Tournament Button), put the new harness in and fasten the nut. Run the wires along the others to the coin door. Unplug the cable going to the existing coin door switch bank, and plug in the new switch harness. That's it!

Construction is all high quality, using correct OEM Molex crimped connectors and sockets. Price will be $30/each + $5 shipping via USPS First Class Mail within the US so email for shipping to Aus. The switch will fit any Stern with the cabinet mounted tournement opening, and also has a connector for the four position switch on the coin door. For sure everything from Ironman up, perhaps others.

contact flyboy22@att.net if interested.

yes a copy and paste from pinside but this is a great little mod and sure the Tournament button can just hang down inside the cabinet.

hey, a great idea.

i was thinking, there is no reason with a little care, u couldnt make another small hole in the cabinet in the appropriate position and keep the tournament button as well as adding the volume switch as well, if u wanted to.

might buy one and try it out, with the idea of making it work whilst keeping the tournament button cause I set up the tournament on my new Sterns to get all the extra cool dmd annimations, and its a fun way to have a home competition. I am sure i could keep the tournament button and still make the volume button work with a slight fiddle. thanks for the link.

maybe the volume button near the on/off toggle so you can quickly adjust the volume but not obvious for kids to muck around with

ok so postage is $24 insured for 1 up to 6 units, so at one unit is not cheap at $54 and $34 each if 6 units come to one destination + a further $10 to $14 within Aus.

Anyone interested in a few to make it worthwhile......

I could go 1-2 units
