Intermittent sound issues FG
« on: February 09, 2013, 10:17:21 AM »
Hi,

I'm having some occasional problems with the sound on my Flash Gordon. It doesn't happen during a game but some times when I turn the machine on there's no sound. I've reseated connections as suggested in the manual and tried adjusting the volume but it makes no difference. I've generally found that I comes back on if I leave it for awhile and turn it on again but as you can imagine, its pretty annoying. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The connector leads I reseated were the J1 and J2 speaker lead connectors on the Power Module in the base of the cabinet as well as the connector supplying power to the coin door including the remote volume control.
When I turn the volume up as loud as it will go there is sound but its not game play sound, just a noise similar to turning an old record player up with out a record playing.

reflow the header pins on the sound board.

I started pulling apart afew other areas of the game to clean up and only just have them back together. Anyway I've now reflowed the header pins without success so I guess the next thing to do would be to change the connectors? Would this be right? I don't have any connectors at the moment but I plan on doing the whole machine anyway so ill be ordering soon. Any advise on the Likly hood of this being the answer to this particular problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't stress mate.  When we get a chance, bring the board over and I will replace the header pins as well as reflow anything that looks a bit sus.  Someone may be able to let you know what type of trim pot (volume) to get.  You will be able to get them from jaycar hopefully and I will change it as well.

See if you can identify what caps are on the board as well and let me know.  I have a fair few different ones here and anything I don't have you can most likely get from jaycar as well.

Only other thing really then would be replacing the connector pins.
Addicted to pins.

Thanks Blair. Anybody know which type of trim pot to get?
