Sorry Andrew,
I'm calling the blue wire pin 1 in my description as it had +12V on the DMD instruction sheet as pin 1. I'm all backwards!

I know you've already tested this Adam, but this might still help to clear up some confusion.

First picture shows the stock display connector.  You can see the pin numbering on the connector, with 1 on the right.

Then testing the 5v. (not required by display)

Next the 18 volts is tested.

Then just to confirm what beaky said, no continuity between the two grounds.

Now based on the pics you supplied, model 192G064-1, revision 01H is the top left panel of the intructions.

Pin 1 is blue 18v wire same as stock connector, just no 5v required.

Thanks for the pictures and help!

I changed the jumper due to what the pin repair guide said:

On newer 192x64 DMD score displays there is a jumper marked "W1 Supply
Pin". This
jumper must be set correctly or the display will not work in Sega
pinball games. The
two vertical "4" jumper pads on the left should be tied together (see
picture below).

Your 5v is pretty low, like mine.

Whilst it's not required by the display any longer, the display driver board must have a good 5v.

Maybe where we are heading next but don't worry for now.

On the pictures, it looks like the W1 jumper is at position 4, whereas the instructions seem to say position 1 to be used. !@#

Yeah, will need clarification on that jumper. Maybe someone else here can chime in on that?

As for the 5v. I have the 5v bypass cable coming from Pinball Life.

http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=1545

This harness update kit includes a cable with connector and installation instructions (Sega service bulletin #106, not shown in picture) for all large dot matrix display Sega pinball machines.

This harness fixes the reset/blankout issues older 192x64 displays can experience.

Simple installation takes under 15 minutes and requires no soldering.

Ok, set my multimeter to the audible continuity test setting and the screen reads 1 when there's nothing connected. I connect the two probes in the pictured order (red in pin 2 next to blue wire) and black in pin 3. There are no sounds or change in screen reading of 1.

Probably best, but if it was me, I'd swap that jumper to position 1.

But that's just me. #@#

Check out my DMD instruction page and see the diagram at the top right. It has the jumper on position 4. Before I moved the blue wire back, It was moved to pin 4 like on the sheet and still no activity in the DMD.

The top right diagram is for a different model.

But I do see your point.

Provided the jumper selection matches the 18v wire position you would expect some sign of life. !@#

can you put the wires back to standard and reinstall the old display and see if you have some action happening? (that's if the display still partially works)
remember you will need to have the cable between the display driver and the cpu connected properly
the +5 volts must be connected properly to the display driver board
and the ribbon between the display driver and display must be connected properly.

you must have all of the above connected properly for the display to work.
