Creature fault > Row 1
« on: July 15, 2013, 05:06:06 PM »
Gday all .

I am currently stumped by a switch fault with my Creature .
Diagnostics is reporting faulty switches 41 (Cola) , 51 (Left outlane) and 61 (Right ramp exit) . These are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th switches on row 1 . The 1st switch on row 1 is 21 (Slam Tilt) .
After looking at the game manual I realised that the Slam Tilt switch connects via the coin door interface board to J208/J209 pin 1 on CPU board whereas the other 3 switches connect via J212 pin 1 . I have continuity between J212 pin 1 and switch 61. The diodes on all 3 switches test OK . Each of the 3 switches tests OK with a meter , but none report closed when operated in single switch test .

Any suggestions appreciated

Cheers
Dave

I'd check continuity to all switches if half are working I'd say its a broken wire in the chain.

I wrote everything down (which I should have done in the 1st place  &^&) and was a bit confused .

In fact the row 1 wire for switches 41, 51 and 61 connects to J208/209 pin 1 on CPU board . As Daniel suggested, mostly likely a broken wire in the chain , but I have continuity from J209 pin 1 to the row 1 wire on switch 61 (and the 2 switches in between) .

Does slam tilt register?

Good point , I hadn't thought to test it . Just did and it does (the one on the door anyway) The one on the bottom of the cabinet doesnt.
From what I can figure out it the one on the door connects via the coin door interface board to J212 pin 4 .
It seems that the one in the bottom of the cabinet is connected via the loom to the other 3 switches in row 1 ?

Unfortunately the manual is not detailed enough for this

Gday Daniel .

Slam Tilt switch on the coin door works , but Slam Tilt ?? (if thats what its called) on the bootm of the cab does not .
Slam Tilt is on the same row as the other 3 switches that don't work .

I need to know if both those tilt switches are the same switch (21) far as the CPU is concerned and how the cabinet switch is connected

Cheers

No need Daniel but thanks for the offer  ^^^

Its Fixed .  #*#
Yesterday I noticed the row wire on switch 21 was pretty dodgy so I resoldered it .
This morning I jumpered between row and column direct on the CPU sockets (with a diode oriented the correct way between the inputs (as per Robm's suggestion over on AA) to activate each of the 3 switches (all of which then reported closed in switch edges test) .
When I rebooted the game diagnostics passed .
So.. it seems that I did have a wiring problem and after I fixed that I should have activated each of the 3 switches .  &^&

Now to sort out why Firepower isn't booting after I swapped out the flat battery
