How to remove this?
« on: September 07, 2013, 12:46:49 PM »
Hi,

I'm after some advice my acdc bell pendulum snapped off at the thread so part of the thread is still in the metal block and the pendulum is in my hand lol what's the best way to get the broken thread part out of the block cause if possible I'd  like to save the block.

Cheers Peter

is there enough access to dremel a slot in it so you then can screw driver it out

or

go to a tool shop or bunnings you can get a set of easyouts used for extracting this sort of thing - centre pop it and drill the appropriate sized hole then use the correct size easyout and screw out

While i am sure there is a better way i have used a screwdriver or an ice pick with a hammer before. I just angle the screwdriver or ice pick at tap it to turn the broken screw out, try to find a notch or something to put the tool onto.

But again i am sure there is a better/easier way.

Got a tumbler?
Couple of hours in a tumbler and it will work itself out

+1 - assuming there's no locktite in there!

Easyout's will work.  If you have a mechanic mate, they always have lots in all different sizes.

Call Dr Bolt or Captain Thread, those guys are legends they will come to your house.
They have all the latest gear to get threads out and they make it look easy, reasonable prices too.

it has worked for me in the past, but as Marty J said, it is not going to work if it is fixed with Locktite

Yep easy out is the best option, but never thought a tumbler would work. Will try this when the time comes.
Still loving my Metallica Premium
