Addams flipper issue

Hi,
Just got my Addams a fdw weeks ago, been playing it pretty hard and today the right lower flipper won't stay out. I put WD40 (small amount) on some of the rods that slide inside the coils, would this be the problem, but the others are fine! had a look underneath and couldn't see anything out of place.

Does anyone have any advice / info on the matter?

Never use any lubricants on coil sleves.
This will either make the nylon sleve expand or end up claging up with dust and dirt and cause more problems
What is the flipper doing?
Is it going up and then dropping when you press the flipper button or is it getting stuck in the up position
Or is it not going up at all?

No. 1 - never ever put WD40 or anything like it on your machine, especially on the plungers (rods that go into the coils).

No. 2 - see No. 1.

You will be better off pulling the flippers apart now and removing the WD40.  It will work short term but then as it gets dirty it will gum up and makes things 10 times worse than what you started with.

In relation to the flipper not staying up (I am guessing this is what you mean by out) my first thoughts would be that the hold wire (the very thin fine one) on the coil may be broken.  I can't remember what coils are in Addams but check the very thin wire on the coil, if there is one.

The only time you should put any type of lube on or in a pinball machine is where you have metal rubbing or meshing together on metal.

Thanks Heaps, the flipper rotates when you press the button, when held in the flipper will not stay in the rotated position, has no strength to it. So when you hit a ball with it, the ballcan push the flipper backwards. Hope this makes sense!

Read what Pintoxicated said carefully - inspect the coils carefully where the wires solder to the tags - probably one of them will be broken - is it BOTH flippers or only one?

I would get rid of the sleeves you lubricated now - this WILL cause you problems in the future.

If you do not have a broken wire things are quite a bit more complex and I suggest that you consult a repair technician at this early stage of your pinnball career to avoid a lot of grief. Better to pick up things slowly and get it right.

If the coils are sound then it is likely to be an electronic issue. Maybe better to measure the coils to make sure they are OK with a multimeter?

Is the flipper pawl tight enough on the flipper shaft?

Lift the playfield to vertical and activate and hold the right hand side flipper with the flipper button - now with your right hand try and push down the upper right hand side flipper bat and watch underneath the playfield. Is the metal flipper shaft turning on its own or is the entire assembly moving?

Hi,
Swapped the coils over and hey presto, it worked correctly, so it was the coil....Happy Days. Have ordered a new one, now onto the Indiana Jones...quite a bit more sereous the issues on this one! See other post.

You have two very sought after machines A titles in my opinion,for your first pins.Great stuff.
now,please read all the repair logs on this forum and learn a bit more before stuffing anything else up.you will learn like the rest of us had to.cheers damien

Everyone learns by their mistakes and at least Digs is having a go at repairing his machines.  There are plenty of other guys out there that would let the machine sit in their garage for years and go to waste. 

Definitely a good idea to read up or ask a question here on the forum though before creating bigger problems for yourself.  There are heaps of guys here with a wealth of knowledge that can help with any problem on a pinball machine.

Well done - I think if you study the 'faulty' coil closely you will find one end of the fine wire is broken away from the solder lug - this is VERY common and an easy fix.

And save you money if you simply solder it back onto the lug.
