Hi,
My Indiana Jones is playing up, it shoots out two balls at the start of a game when it should only shoot out one.

If the right amount of balls are installed in the machine then it is a trough opto problem.
Usually it will be a broken solder joint or trace on the transmit side on one of the LEDs or resistors.
Or you have a faulty led

Do a switch test and put 1 ball at a time into the trough and make sure all of the Ball positions are triggered as you put the balls in

The opto boards were a poor design by Williams in that the resistors tended to get very hot and play havoc with the optos on the board.

You will be able to see this in the switch test in the row of 6 indicator "squares" for the ball trough on the DMD will have at least one that is usually flickering on and off.

In nearly all of the cases the problem lies with the transmitter board only - this is the board closest to you on the ball trough when you lift the playfield to the pulled forward horizontal position.

If you are not up to soldering then you can pick up a new improved opto transmitter board for about $40.

Awesome,
I think I've Fu**ed it tho, was tinkering with the opto board (coin side) and it sounded like it shorted and the LED's on both the inner and outer boards went off. Now it's coming up with the following errors when testing:
1. Mini PFD error, check switches 94 and 95 (left and right)
2. Idol Bad
3. Drop BNK bad

OH bugger....any suggestions?
I've gone into the testing of the mini pfd and it says that 94 and 95 have errors!

Can it get worse!!

Check and replace fuses F115 and F116 on the power driver board (the largest green board) in the backbox. One or both of them will be blown.

Don't poke around underneath the playfield or in the backbox with the machine turned on.  *.*

There is a Z shaped connector between the power driver and MPU board. Reseat this connector - also check fuses as mentioned

Nice one, I visually checked all the fuses before and looked fine, checked again after your post with a multimeter and found F116 blown. Off to shops to get a new one. Thanks heaps.

Mike/Homepin had a very good deal on fuses that are used in pinball machines.  Not sure if he still has any sets available but I would highly recommend a set if he has any left.  They were great value and everything you will more than likely need will be in the kit.

Sounds like you learnt to always check fuses with a DMM as well.  It is the only way to go.

As mentioned before better to buy one of home pins trough opto boards.
His design  is better than any of the other opto boards around

Don't just replace the blown fuse with the same value - check with the manual or the fuse identification chart in the backbox to ensure you are replacing it with the right value. Very common to see the wrong fuse values.
