flipper stuck up

Well I'm pretty sure its all sorted, has one of those flipper boards with the sliding magnet, must on moved a bee's dik while the pin was in transport, readjusted it, seemed ok for a few days, started to play up, so i ordered new boards off homepin, good price & move on,  I guess i could have taped the magnet down blah blah

yep flipper goes back up when turn on,

so it was going up when you pressed the start button?
i thought you said it was going up when you turned the machine on as per the above quote  

if it is only going up after you press the start button then it is an opto / flipper button board fault.

These GPE boards can be a bit flaky - they use hall effect sensors and a magnet to detect a switch closure - this was done to cicumvent a recently expired patent held by the WMS licence holder. The design works well most times but can cause some issues as the OP has found.

These WMS patents have stiffled Pinball for 20 years as the rights holders have done little with them apart from prevent certain parts from being made. One leacy is boards like this that are starting to cause issues but we are fortunate in that the patents are all expiring over the next year or so and cannot be renewed.

is it getting stuck and then dropping when the ball hits it or is it standing at attention as soon as the machine is turned on?

if it is getting stuck and then dropping it may just be that there is not enough gap between the flipper bush and the flipper.
try pulling up and pushing down on the flipper ( you want to pull up on the flipper so the shaft that goes through the playfield moves, i don't want you to mimic the movement of the flipper when you press the button when doing this) there should be some movement


there should be enough of a gap between the pawl and the bush to fit a tool that looks like this.


I have found quite a few sterns made after 2002 to have absolutely no gap at all from factory
 
if there is enough movement then mimic the flipper up and down movement,
if it is not moving freely then the flipper plunger may be mushroomed at the end and catching on the sleeve (yellow circle on the right in the photo below)
this photo is of a wpc flipper but the plungers mushroom the same way


if it is going straight up as soon as you turn on the machine then you have a blown mosfet on the driver board

yep, power on, start the game the flipper would energize

I have installed a set of home pins opto boards on a customers machine and the led indicator on the opto boards are very handy
