Website attached for you Gav.

I have used a place a dozen times at very very cheap prices but excellent chrome finish n warranty located on the Gold Coast for large jobs and small.
The owners name is Ron. I always ask for him cause he gives the best pricing. I always offer to pay cash then and there in advance of the job being done, and the pricing drops to about 30 to 40 percent off.

Ron has been doing this plating/chroming for over 40 years. He must be close to 70 yrs of age with many workers.

website supplied above. top place, top pricing n top work. what u see in the photo is apx a third of the actual huge factory. he has chemical tanks inside the size of swimming pools. longest running place on the gold coast n one of the biggest in Australia.

Gold Coast Electroplating. Just dropped 5 small items to be polished, 3 to be zinc plated and 2 to be chrome plated for a total of $160. Seemed reasonable to me.

Find someone who charges by the load, rather than per piece.

It will always work out at a better price.

What are the dimensions of the parts roughly and I can give you a comparison quote from the plater I use.

I have got quotes from many places on the goldcoast n the place I recommended *the one ya mate may have been -got quoted $1500) has always been the best value for money, but there work is the absolute best, n Ron is a perfectionist n his chrome work will last 25 yrs out in bad weather. (other companies I have tried apply the plating in far less microns-thickness, n wont give an outside warranty at all, let alone 25 yrs no matter what.

That's what Ron has always given me. His plating is thick. No re-do jobs from him in 3 or 4 yrs because job was done too cheap n too thin to start off with, unlike many others)
He supplies the thickest plating, not the thinnest like 90 percent of the competition. If u want the best, you have to pay a bit extra.
Many Harley shops n Hotrod car builders for Bumper Bars n all different people use Ron. He has a 40 yr reputation to uphold. No cheap rushed jobs from there.

However, dealing directly with the owner, Ron, the cash up front trick, and the not demanding the whole job be ready next week, but saying I will wait the 4 weeks or whatever the queue is, will get the $1500 down to about a grand. I would have expected the quote be $1000 to $1200 cash if I had of taken that stuff in and wanted the highest quality job.

This place receives work from many companies all over Australia from people/companies who want the absolute best job/quality n polishing/warranty, n they don't mind waiting. This place has not been a drop off n pick up next week place for over ten years, they are booked many months in advance usually. I always don't mind the price or the wait, cause looking at the big picture n the end result is why I keep going back n never go anywhere else, no matter what they promise or quote. Hope it helps, just my opinion...

Aye but there's quality and quality.. good luck to him if he only deals with the high end market and sees enough work to keep afloat. The prices certainly reflect that most enquiries don't turn into jobs. Most people are dropping prices as the economy bites harder.. those with big overheads are really feeling it and many are on borderline trading insolvent.
$1500 is far too much.. even a grand is far too much.
Pete will shop around a bit and see what price differences we can come up with

Gav, seriously, if u drove around to 20 places in Brisy/Goldy, u would find that u wouldn't get it under a grand at all.

If u did, cheap shit job. I did the 20 shop driving thing, drove around for days, n found out the hard way. Most chrome shops are snowed under, unless they are new or gone broke.
Maybe the other state might be cheaper, but maybe he has not been open for 40 years either n hasn't got jobs lined up to his neck.

Most places just do a thin job. Looks good for a year or two if lucky, then u see the pitting appear everywhere.
The costs n times to chrome something n chemicals used is a big time process n costly process when done right.
Ron gave me the tour, found out how it all works.

Hope ya mate finds it cheaper, but u wont know the quality til u wait a few yrs n see if it was a real thin job or not (sort of like bog in a car)...doesn't rare its ugly head straight away. Anyway, goodluck with it.

$1500 plus is a gyp.

That pic would be 2 loads worth at $360/load plus GST = $800 tops which includes strip/chrome/polish to mirror finish.

Ron is good but the fumes have obviously fine to his head if he is suggesting $1500 + GST.  The fumes have gone to his head anyway,  and anything you take to him,  clearly label and itemise. Any time frame he gives you,  double it and then add some.  He's a great old character,  but sometimes you need to ride him to get the job done.  Forgetful.? Understatement..!
