i went over and did a test today on the rotten dog power supply and after fixing a connector problem the reset took longer to happen, instead of happening once all 4 flippers were activated it would take about 5 to 10 seconds to reset (depending on how many times the flippers were pressed)
I put a meter on the +5 at the power supp and with each time the flippers were pressed (at around 1 second between each press) the voltage would drop .03 of a volt (5v, 4.97, 4.94, 4.91 and so on) until the machine would reset.
I fitted the original P/S which has already had its caps replaced and no more resetting, no more voltage drop so i removed the power supply and replaced the headers related to the +5v with new
headers and also the connector for the AC input
I was told that after the rotten dog P/S was fitted the connector for the +5 to the mpu board was replaced. (this would more than likely be the cause of the original reset problem)
after getting the machine to run stable i re fitted the rotten dog power supply and the resetting returned
long story cut short another dodgy rotten dog power supply.
it may be cheaper to buy a new power supply buy it is not always the best thing to do.
