Arcade sound issues? MORTAL KOMBAT
« on: July 09, 2014, 08:56:06 PM »
Hey guys On my way! Finally getting the last pieces of my mortal kombat cabinet together but have a sound fault?

On power up the game has that white noise fizz. But when you start a game all sounds are present but still with the static?

Any pointers before I pull the board out?

The white noise/fizz sound is very typical of the audio amp chip dying, typically a 5pin, 7pin (or more)..

Without knowing (or seeing) the schematic, that's my first thing to look at......maybe find the audio IN to that chip and listen to it to see if it's clean going into the amp to confirm.

Otherwise, it could still be any part of the chip(s) that make up various oscillators/noise-generators elsewhere.

All good advice ill follow them up tomorrow also think it may be the EPROMs or the background sounds EPROM found a sound board test in the menu and two of the 4 tests don't work.

Check it out tomorrow FINISH HIM

Nicely done...

So, were the original roms actually faulty then? i'm guessing only the crystal was to blame?

Thanks NiƱo

I've had the control panel buried in my stash for years it was the best one if seen with only a couple of tiny chips of the edge of the artwork and slowly collected the parts I needed to complete it.   Don't know where I'm going to fit it but hell why not
