The displays don't need to be grounded if the power supply has a ground mod.

Do all displays flicker, or just the one ?

What are these LED displays ? I've never heard of them  !@#

Have you done the power supply ground mod?
From memory there are two grounds on the power supply, I have read somewhere where the two grounds should be tied together to stop weird stuff like that happening.

Fun game, I like the System 1's.

As for sorting problems with them to a greater degree System 80, it is always best to do the ground mods before worrying about anything else as this cures a lot of issues and can avoid chasing unnecessary problems.

Take everything to true ground ( mains) including backbox sheeting etc and you shouldn't have anymore problems. IMO the Clay mods don't go far enough because you can never have too much ground, only not enough

I agree, I don't think Clay's guides have anything about the two separate grounds on the power supply.
I had an issue with mine so I rebuilt it and grounded everything to common, hasn't missed a beat yet.

also don't forget your board connectors, these often get overlooked but are well worth doing.

Cool, thanks Gav. so your saing thak it to where your mains lead is soldered to the emi filter
and Chris, are you saying to run extra earth mods from edge connectors as well as from the boards?
Or are you sugerting to repin it? Im was only going to tidy up a few things and run earth from boards as he doesnnt want to spend heaps on it.

Yeh.. wherever your mains earth comes in.. this should go to the earth distribution solder board in the cabinet base. Make sure this is all good and solid with less then 1 Ohm resistance to all parts of the machine and reference all  board ground to this

I mean Clay's ground mods + the p/s ground mod and a separate job is to re-pin the connectors especially the lower ones on the MPU
