Neon is normally off. It can flicker when plunging a ball or getting extra ball, but thats about it. It only stays on fully during jedi fights and during attract mode. During attract mode it will eventually fade out and then fade on and stay on for some time. This repeats until a game is started

The polarity is important as Retropin has said. You need to know which wire is positive and which is negative on the transformer input. Check the 15VDC voltage with the transformer unplugged but also check the voltage with it plugged in to see if the voltage drops to zero.

Thanks hardly seems worth the effort :)
I know which one is the positive on the neon transformer. Attached is a pic of the playfield adaptor. Can someone confirm which wire is positive here. Maybe I am going wrong on this end.

Someone may know by colour who owns this type of machine but you can easily check yourself with a multimeter as you used before. Make sure the red probe is plugged into the V on the meter an the black is plugged into the common on the meter. Test the voltage on the plug both ways. When you get a positive reading on the meter the red probe side/wire is positive.

I might re try again. I think I blew the chip again anyway so I will replace it in a couple of days and re test with caution. at least I know when the tube is supposed to work and leant about solenoid test 41, so it has not been all bad :)
ah the joy

Ok I finally got back to this pin. it seems the connector that was on the playfield end was no good.
I cut it off , put a new one on, and success!!!!.
thanks to everyone who helped. I could not have done it without you.
It does feel satisfying.

so it seems now all the fuses were wrong as the flipper fuse blew.
I will replace fuse and hopefully that's it

Well done! Sometimes it's the simplest problem but finding it is the trick. It always feels good to fix your own machine and learn something along the way!

it seems I celebrated too soon.
After the neon was going the machine blew fuse 104 and then fuse 110 which has stopped the flippers and coils to work. I have replaced fuses and switched unit on, the right flipper went up and some smoke came from what I can assume is the board.  As a result the flippers now do now work at all. any suggestions

Shorted transistor that drives the right flipper.

Q35 according to the manual.

Test with a DMM to make sure and replace if necessary.
