The next project in the works: Maverick
« on: October 08, 2014, 10:44:57 PM »
I managed to win a Maverick on Evilbay last week, it was one of mark c's projects pins he had up for grabs.

here are some pics:

As you can see in the next few pics, the playfield, ramps & drop targets are filthy, lol.

Dont think any of the rubbers have ever been changed, they look pretty toasty lol.

Bit of a mess inside:

The main thing for me was the Playfield being in great condition  *%*
Was a little worried to be honest, until I went to pick it up and saw that the Playfield was in even better condition than first thought  $#$
Everything seems to be there, not sure if it works or not ?
They cut the power cable off when I picked it up ( I suppose to cover them selves ? )
It apparently came from Germany ? I checked there power output and they are 220v as well.
So I suppose I just wire it up the same as my other 2 Data East pins ?

Overall it looks like it just needs a good clean, a little cabinet work, wired it up and see if she goes BANG !! lol

Just need to finish the DE Star Wars first  :D

Yeah they cut off the cable as a legal requirement.

Was that manual left inside it?

Your biggest risk now that it is complete..hoping that huge DMD works.

Interesting how they put the yellow cab protectors on it. Usually that is an indication its going to be serviced and sold working.

Original legs too..even has the warning sticker on the bottom of the back left leg  () Looks honest.

Regardless of whether the game was stated as being "from a private collection in Germany", or "A museum in Germany" - please DOUBLE CHECK the transformer configuration and have the game plug installed and tag and tested. I get at least one of these "projects" a week and they are very seldom fit the description.

Finger crossed the display works. It should clean up nicely and it is a bit of a sleeper title.

I'm going to have a go at getting this going to see if she fires up !

Before I do, if someone could help out with a bit of info about the DMD power plug, then that would be great.

So the machine came with the DMD's power not connected:

Here is the power cable, you can see one of the wires has been cut (Red) and taped back on the DMD side:

Here is the other end in connects to:

So basically what I need to know is the correct pinouts so I can compare what I have.

Thanks in advance  *%*

I did a fair bit of searching on the net last night and this is what I've come up with:

I learnt that there are a couple of different display driver boards for the DMD, the CHERRY, BABCOCK & DALE.
I have a CHERRY:

So from what I've researched on the CHERRY is that this is the correct pinouts:

Can anyone confirm this ?

By the looks of my power cable, it came from a BABCOCK display driver board and has been thrown in the bottom of the cabinet.
The power cable has the 5v (Red) wire detached, 2 ground (Black) wires in the middle & 12/18v (blue) wire where the 5v wire is supposed to go.

Again can anyone confirm if my research is correct ?

You can at least check the 5v and ground by checking the continuity between the connector pins and the VCC and ground legs of the on board chips
You would have to consult the schematics for the 12/18V

Will do, much appreciated  ^^^

Ok, so I now have the power to the DMD correct and also installed a new power cord to the machine so I can plug it in the wall.
Roughly went over everything, to make sure there were no bare wires or anything like that.

Plugged it into the wall and prayed it wouldn't go BANG !! lol
Well it didn't go bang  :D

So when it did turn on, I hear the horn for the Lauren Belle and the logic board starts with the left & middle LED staying lit up.
But that's it, there's no lights coming on anywhere, no DMD and no buttons do anything.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to start looking ?
I was thinking power supply ?
