Operators importing second hand pins in late 70s

Does anyone know if many operators in the late 70s eArly 80s imported second hand pins from the USA to operate on site.

I purchased a Gottlieb 1978 Charlie's Angels that the owner says has been in his family for 20 years. It has 20cent coin markings but has a step down transformer?

Yes they did. Can state this as fact as I was in the truck on many visits to the wharves to pick them up. Definitely EMs. Dad used to fly over to the Bally and Gottlieb factories, choose the NIB games and then use second hand games to "fill" the container. Sometimes pinballs and EM games like gun games and novelty stuff like "bulldozer" and "Whirlybird". Then the video games like "sprint", "Le Mans" etc etc. Juke Boxes etc..

Same with the 80's. NIB containers and then fill with second hand games. SYS1 games and Williams SYS4/6 had strange configurations with transformers. I don't know why. It might have been a transition period. I know that domestic EMs simply had 110V transformers and export had 220/230/240 transformers. There was simply a jones plug that you used to set between 110V/240V next to the transformer.

And I've just noticed that my ten strike coon hunt both have or need a step down and I know they were operated in Victoria

I've been looking for this game and Whirlybird for 20 years. I STILL remember the Whirlybird from the original storage building. I asked Dad "where did it go". He paused. Looked at me and said - "it is with the 50 other games.. .. .. Reservoir landfill"

 Chopper isn't wirly bird but pretty close I'm pretty happy to own games that are on your wanted list Nino
