Gottlieb EM Backglass Sticky Tape???
« on: March 01, 2015, 12:51:47 PM »
I have noticed this on a lot of Gottlieb backglasses, not sure if other brands are affected but on the backglass there are faded strips where it looks like sticky tape has been on the back of the glass???

You can see it clearly on this picture:

And strangely enough around the same area on this machine:

Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone know what causes it?

I have seen these in the flesh and the art is actually faded
How would sticky tape on the front of the glass affect the artwork?

I think its caused by the black sponge they used to put behind the glass to cushion it from vibration against the back board when the game is moved.

I've seen it heaps on Gottliebs especially.. something about the sponge, over time leeches through the ink and leave marks that show up from the front.

Pic from a Card Whiz back board i have here in pieces atm..

Often around the credit unit as well as the credit unit was mounted on springs and rubber grommets and vibrated a lot.

Makes sense, I have only ever seen it on Gottliebs.
Ever seen it on Bally's or Williams?
