Gottlieb system 80A/ flicker display

Royal flush deluxe at start up wont boot up ,0 are flicker rolling from one side to the other,some times there is no +5vdc light on the power board ,
slam switch on the door is disconnected and the mpu board has a mod add to it for the slam switch ,after around 10 mins of turning the pin on and
off and warming up its ok ,took power board off one pin at j3 was loose resolder it but other wise all looks  good on the pin side any help is appreciated

1 of the two  orange capacitors inside the cabinet have been changed ,the mod on the mpu board for the slam switch  has been added  anything else i don't know   i have had this pin for a month now

The flicker rolling 0s can be caused by a bad slam switch circuit.
Check to make sure the bypass mod was correctly installed.
Capacitor and resistor should be linked at side near connectors.
Post some photos here if you're unsure.

Also do you have access to a multimeter?

Beat me to it!
Checking connectors was going to be my next suggestion.

As well as mpu to driver also check power supply to mpu. (5 volts)
Disconnect/reconnect these a few times to see if any improvement.

yes have a  dmm ,changed the other orange  cap in the cabinet , but i think its j3 connector on the power supply board , when i move j3 connector  around +5v light comes  on machine tries  to boot up , i took that power board off last week and found a broken pin on j3  re solder it  was good for a week ,maybe i have to change the connector on j3 and rewire those wires  , when i rewire j3 and change the connector  can i use molex pins  instead
of the connector that's on there now

You will most likely need to do the uogrades to the power supply. At least the connectors on the board and the pins in the housing.

If you can't find them locally, I highly recommend Great Plains Electronics.

You'll also need the correct crimping tool.

i took the power board out last night i was going to take the back plate off and found the screws for q3 at the back
were loose so i tightened them put the board back in +5vdc light came straight on machine booted up so far so good,
was there a connection with q3 that was causing the problem

i am still going to change the connectors over but i have noticed that the wiring in this connectors are done different
from my stern and bally machine ,can i just cut the wires and put the same connectors in as my stern & bally machine

No, totally different.
Your Gottlieb uses edge connectors.
You can still cut them off and replace them with the correct parts.
