Nice work, I am still crap at soldering but it doesn't stop me from having a go. I eventually get stuff working even if it has looked like a dogs breakfast, so that is reward enough.

Congrats  @@*  Almost up there with your first finger in a... pie *%*

I'm with you Slash - mine is like a dog's breakfast - but i make sure it's a short dog's breakfast so it doesn't short on one of the other dog's breakfasts (that make sense?). Btw when u touring here - last album is a bit hit & miss - about five crackers (bent to fly is a ripper) & the rest - well sort of a dog's breakfast  :lol

When soldering make sure you heat the wire up enough so the solder will flow across the wire and connection point.
Do not just apply solder to the end of the soldering iron without the wire being hot enough. This may give you a dry solder joint with poor conductivity and low strength. You need the solder to flow nicely .
Personally i think you may have problem with your soldering joint.
Have less wire exposed , if the cable gets pulled it may short out.
It should be physically strong and conductivity sound. Use plenty of solder. Watch out for solder drips onto other wiring , etc. I place a old cloth were solder may land.

You just had him recently at Soundwave plus didn't he play Bent to Fly at half time of the NRL GF too?

We no longer get Soundwave in Perth so I bloody missed out on seeing him recently, even tho the Soundwave festival originally started in Perth

I missed him at soundwave but yeah he did BTF at the nrl gf - caught that. A few (understatement warning) thought it was average - but I thought he played fine - what did they expect from a guitarist playing to a backing track. Have a look at the nrl performance then check meatloaf at the afl  :lol

Do not just apply solder to the end of the soldering iron without the wire being hot enough.

This is great advice, heat the wire until the solder flows onto it. Don't melt the solder with the iron let the wire do it. You will see great results that way.

Watch out for solder drips onto other wiring , etc. I place a old cloth were solder may land.

Haha, also a very helpful tip!
I managed to drip solder onto my (somewhat expensive) carpet due to forgetting to cover the splash areas. Trust me when I say solder does not come out, you can cut it out though.  :lol

This is important - & although said jokingly what I mean about keeping it short (so it doesn't short). It depends on the angle of the photo - I think top 1st go (& it's the event that's important) but would it be even better if the wire wasn't stripped so far??

Crimping is mainly tedious to do... takes a few to get the hang of it.
I find it easier with a small pair of flat nose pliers rather than a crimping tool

Well I will post up pics as I go & risk the embarrassment (infinite was man enough to air his 1st solder so I'll have a stab). Hopefully I can remove a crispy j121 & end up with a clean still working one. i checked a few youtubes &. have some crimpers so will give them a run. if struggling might try the pliers. will be in a week or two.
