Pins in Tassie circa 1979
« on: April 28, 2009, 11:11:42 PM »
Going through the photo album I found this one. I took this photo is Tassie in 1978 or 79. The law there (I think) was that you could not insert coins in pins, therefore you paid at the counter and credits were put on the machine. If you look closely at the coin slots, they are blocked. Somewhere in the house I have a couple more of these - I'll see if I can find them
Wanted: GTB Aquarius backglass. Any playfield bits and backglasses from any EMs - nothing is junk to me.

Millsy - you could use 10cent pieces or keys on Bingos in Victoria. They were called "Money Machines" back in the day.

We called them monies back then - only found out they were called Bingos 2 years ago. I used to play them in the local snooker room. Used to feed a load of coins in (mainly to try and get those odds up or that extra ball from memory) When you want youre payout, just called the attendant over and he would pay you out. They used to have a lookout at the front & rear doors in case the 21st squad (Dectectives) raided the joint as they used to have the card games going in the back room as well.

This is correct, when i used to frequent the pinny parlors you payed your money at the counter for pinball but you could insert coins in arcade machines &^&
not sure when this changed, or why it was so.
one of the parlors you paid at a window, all the machines were wired to a switch the op would press to give the credit, these wires used to run around the room and into the back of each machine,, someone had worked out if you climbed under the machine and cut through the wire plastic coating with a knife it would make contact with the credit wires and give you a credit, boy we got some free games until the op found out :lol

cheers Ian

Those games were great to play - 3 times - then  (((

They were always facinating to watch working though. Nearly all of the EM arcade games (non pins) went to the dump and are very rare today.
