My Gottlieb High Hand's score reels don't reset every time I start a new game. It seems quite a random thing and the game works well otherwise...does anyone know where I should be looking? The other issue that's random is sometimes the bonus keeps on going for a while and other times it will award the correct amount of points...any help would be appreciated.  ^^^

Contacts in the score reels and bonus unit arnt always making good contact.  Try tightening the switch stack on the offending reels and bonus unit and run a piece of paper between them to make sure there clean

Check the bonus unit "home" switch. Can't recall exactly where it is on this game - but you will see it clicking away if it is not adjusted. do you have schematics ?

Thanks, the bonus unit's working well now...the switches were a little bit out of alignment. I checked, cleaned and tightened the reel switches but I still get the score reels not resetting to zero every time.

Is the game restarting Ok even though score reels are not going back to zero.. or is the motor continually running?

The game starts ok every time...the motor doesn't keep running. I just had 5 games before and thought it was fixed...then on the 6th the score reels didn't reset. !@#

Hi Nino,
All good now with the bonus unit... thanks for your help. There was only one switch on the side so I'm guessing that was the home switch that was out of adjustment.
No, I don't have any schematics for the machine.

Eddie

When you say the score wheels wont reset, is it all reels or one reel, do the reels move at all or do they seem like they are sticking.

None of the score reels reset or move & they don't make any noise or look like they stick at all.

Sorry - I don't understand the last post.
But.... if they are not going back to zero but the game still plays like normal then they had found their zero position.
Game wont let you continue unless the scores have found zero  position. So it would seem that even though you can see a number, the relays are behaving normally, Sounds like the reels themselves are disengaging and spinning round which is what Millsy is suggesting

Double check the push on plugs at the backbox and the bottom panel first.

I hit the start button and the score reels don't move from the score set on the previous game. So if I scored 24320 then that is the score I start the game at. The credit reel moves, targets reset and ball count starts at 1 and everything plays as it should with the score reels scoring correctly throughout the game. The game awards specials and credits at high scores corresponding with the score displayed and correctly awards match replay with matching numbers. When that game finishes and I hit start again, this time the score reels all go back to zero and the game plays as it should. The problem is sometimes the score reels don't zero at the start of the game; it's all the reels that don't zero and they don't make any noise and don't spin or disengage at all but then that game plays and they score perfectly throughout the game and everything else works perfectly too.

Ok - got you this time.
I might have a HH schematic here in the pile.. as usual though, they are in the shed with no power and I don't get home till dark.
What should be happening is that the zero position on each reel is engaged.. the 100's reel is engaged to reset by the 9 position on the 10's reel and so on.. that tells the machine that the game is reset. What I think is happening here is that the relay that pulses the score reels ( should be in the backbox) is not engaging properly.. I THINK its labelled DB... it needs to be open when all reels are at zero... if it stays open then the game assumes the score reels are reset ( am I making sense?).
This relay talks to a switch on the score motor telling it to stop because all reels are at zero.
It the problem comes and goes like you say then im afraid its a very fine adjustment that required.. could be a dirty contact or misaligned switch that is slightly out.. check with your DMM

Hi, yes what you said makes perfect sense and thanks for going into detail for me.
In the backbox, there's the N,M,L,K for 10's,100's,1000's,10,000 & F relay which is the different style relay that switches the lit lanes when the ball hits the bumper...they all look good and I adjusted, tightened and cleaned contacts but I'm still having the problem...I'll keep tinkering. Maybe the relay that pulses all the score reels is in the cabinet so I might have to go through and  check them too.

I checked and reseated all the jones plugs in the backbox and bottom panel. I can see that someone has disconnected two joined wires from the start relay and put a wire from the start relay to the transformer in its place.
