Captive Ball Not Regestering

This is probably a simple one and I would like to have a crack at fixing it myself without bringing in a tech if possible.
Before I start please take in to account I am a pinball player and an electronics layman.
On my Breakshot there is a captive ball which when you hit it shots up and hits a target which registers one hit towards extra ball (hit it 3 times for extra).
Anyway I noticed that it is not registering when you hit it. I took a look under the playfield and it is a leaf switch. There doesn't appear to be any broken wires/solder joints and the switch appears to be open and in good nick I even gave the contacts a light file but nothing. I then tried pushing the target with my finger in case the ball wasn't making hard enough contact to register but still nothing.
Its not that I mind paying someone who knows what there doing to come in and fix it but I do get a certain amount of satisfaction when I fix an issue on my own.
Any ideas on something else I should try or is it time to call in the expert?

Make sure when you press the target down that the leaf switch is actually touching... often they tend to flex apart and need a tweek back in the close the gap slightly... That's the simple solution!

Capcom switch diodes are mounted in the back box on the large power/driver board.

Test with meter on diode test, first with red to band and again with black lead on banded end .
Look for any unusual readings compared to others.

Let us know if you get stuck.

Check that the switch is not already closed. An error should pop up on bootup. I'm not that familiar with Capcom (as they rarely have issues)..

Just got back from testing the diode on the leaf switch and got a reading of 561 which according to my mate on YouTube is ok. Switch seems open and makes contact when hit with ball or in this case pushed with my finger.
Didn't know about the diodes on the board will have a look at that tomorrow and see if I can Suss it out and get back to you.

Might be a replacement switch that came with a diode preinstalled.

Be interesting to check the corresponding board diode.  Double-dipping with diodes is usually a bad idea, and can cause problems.

Was the switch working in the past?

Might also be worth reseating connectors J6, J7 and J9 on the large driver board.

These are the switch matrix row and column connectors.

Yes the switch has been working 100% for the almost 2 years I have owned it.

Sorted this today (not by me) but thanks to this tip found a wire that had come away from a plug on the board which was causing this problem along with a few other problems I was unaware of at the time. Wire now back in and everything 100% thanks.
