New to the game
« on: January 12, 2016, 04:33:02 PM »
Hi all,

I have just been introduced to the pinball world TODAY! Obviously I've played them before, but until this morning, I wasn't aware that there was such an involved culture surrounding pinball machines... and I want to be a part of it!

A friend of mine has been refurbishing machines for a while now and has just told me all about it. I'm now looking at purchasing my very first one and get started. If anyone knows of somewhere I can pick up a decent starter I would really appreciate a message. It doesn't have to work, but not be too much effort in getting it up and running.

I live in Adelaide but I'm happy to travel to Melbourne to get one, preferably below $1k. I used to play them in my local deli in the late 80s to early 90s and, from memory, I played ones like Space Invaders and Elm Street. I would LOVE to own one of that vintage.

Well, I'll be off now to peruse the rest of the site for all the information I can possibly absorb until it starts falling out of my mouth and my other half smacks me in it.

Good to be aboard...

TJ

Nice intro TimboJ.

Be warned, this can quickly become a disease for which there is no cure. Be sure to start practicing the following lines to use on the missus:

"I had to get another one otherwise the first one would have been lonely"
"It was a 2 for 1 deal and the seller wouldn't sell them separately"
"It's only temporary"
"All my other pinball friends keep theirs in the loungeroom"
"It's more of an investment... yeah that's it... a retirement nest egg".

Always good to see SA members joining up on AP, particularly those that are new and looking to get involved in the pinball hobby.

If you are interested I have a number of machines available which may suit your needs and I am local to you as well in SA.

Feel free to drop me a PM and we can discuss it further.

Like everyone else has said here. It NEVER stops at one pin.
I'm at the point where most of the pins that I want are up for sale. I just don't know what to do, don't know what to get next ^&^

You will have lots of fun with this addiction.

I started with one like most others, and like most found they only need one to be able to breed....

Enjoy!  :D

$.$ and  %)%. I'm a little different to the others I only bought one pinball and stuck with it. The others are cardboard cut outs, at least that's what I tell my wife  &&
