Apron with holes
« on: July 28, 2016, 08:34:23 PM »
Anyone have any idea why two holes would have been drilled into this apron? no sign of a plaque or anything been on there as there is no colour fade so this has got me curious.

Interesting to see what people think it was for!

Cheers: Brettski... :)

OK, what does the backside look like?
is there evidence of nuts being turned?

I think your first guess is right, some sort of a plaque
or a holder for a pinball licence

Fits a special tool that plugs in, used as a handle to easily lift the playfield?

I spent 45 mins on the case a couple of weeks back - I had as much clue now as I did before the research! - pretty sure it isn't factory though

This is Great! finally some clues, still having trouble sleeping but it's getting easier now!  :D

Well done, great responses.. :)

Apparently they fitted GPS devices to them for tracking on location, they also reported back to base when the machine was abused and a car would pull up outside the venue and men dressed in Paisley Suits would make the person responsible for triggering it disappear.

;)

Am I seeing a lighter triangular outline rising inline with the bottom hole - indicating that something has covered that area for a long time?

I've seen holes in aprons to secure a clear piece of perspex with either the license details for the game, or operator business cards etc.

After reading the September issue of Motor magazine I'm pretty sure I have your answer!

Apparently the Le Mans racing Porsche 917's of the 1960's had holes drilled in the key to cut down the cars total body weight, so it stands to reason that since pinballs are also heavy that this is also the reason for the holes in your apron.........you're welcome!   &&

LOL Well that's a winner! I am going to drill all my machine keys to make them lighter, will make it much easier for moving them around! :)

Hi Brett,

I think you will find that the machine was once sited in Queensland where all machines had to be "registered" and the registration label clearly displayed. Commonly this label was placed on the apron under a piece of clear perspex which was held in place by two small screws.

 Hi Dan,
That sounds about right to me. I remember Qld had that registration thing and yes it is a Qld machine.

Mystery solved I would say but some of the answers were fun!

Cheers: Brettski... :)
