Not done yet. Even though the primer is all good, the base coat can still react. But I know what to do if that happens.

Just catching up with this thread now, i went looking for it as i'm currently doing a full resto on a Superman as well at the moment. The cabinet/backbox on this one i'm doing has also been a big pain the the arse but for different reasons, badly lifting/delaminating ply everywhere you look  ^&^

It really was in horrible shape, i almost wondered at one point if a new can should've been built. I ended up resorting to removing layers of the top ply on some of the cab/backbox (some of it practically fell off)! and gluing in new ply. Turned out pretty sweet, finished the basecoat yesterday. Will start a resto thread when i get time!

Looking forward to further updates on this one you're doing Nino  ^^^

This project is waiting on HRP to complete the playfield restoration. As soon as Tim is done, I can move back to this restoration. The other hold up is that the side that is reacting to the primer undercoat cannot be painted. I even tried with a roller and no thinner. It just peels off in chunks. I'm still at a loss as to why this is happening, but I'm convinced that the game was used as a toilet in the barn or garage it was stored in. The side that cannot be painted still smells, no matter what I do. I ended up replacing the entire side panel. The front panel may have to be replaced as well as it was damaged as I separated the side from the bottom and front panels.

This is the price I pay when I agree to restore a game "sight unseen". It was delivered straight out of a barn that housed a small zoo. Given the extra hours I've already spent, and the playfield delays, I'm a lot more careful in what games I will restore in the future ! This has become more of a "Love Job" - and I'm not even close to half way through the restoration.

Tim completed the playfield just as Covid hit, so I've been unable to pickup the playfield. Regardless, this is another project that is now non financial.

OK so this project continues even after the customer forfeited the project. I've invested a lot into the project and hit some serious brick walls on a number of fronts. The update is that the cabinet has to be built from scratch. Years after painting the headbox base white, it has started peeling like the lower cabinet. Also a quick check of the boards in this machine - they don't work 100%... So much for a working machine that needed reconditioning.

So this game has changed direction significantly and now that the backglass and plastic set has been reproduced, this will be the "High End Restoration" that I was in a way dreading as I've spent so much time and money on it for no return. BUT now it will be a restoration that will further test my patience !

Speaking of "patience", Tim dropped off the perfectly restored playfield a couple of weeks back and I thought at least I could post photos of this incredible restoration. Photos don't do it justice, but I did find it funny that the playfield was completed in 2020 !

Thanks to Tim for such an incredible job restoring this playfield. Next will be the cabinet and I will have to work out what to do about the boards. One POSSIBLE option is I have a very "switched on" and ambitious Pinball Person who may look at reproducing the ENTIRE boardset...  #@#

I believe the machine came from a Zoo Lavatory in either NSW or QLD, but I thought the owner was Victorian. It has been that long !

Playfield looks SWEET AS, Nino.. Tim did a great job as usual! ^^^ ^^^
I've quit doing full playfield restores (for the time being at least), and have knocked back several in the last couple of years.

I've had two Supermans here now.. hopefully i won't see another anytime soon!

He is Melbourne based. We are looking at doing the entire boardset including power supply and displays - but we are still evaluating the process as the needs to be some technical knowledge of the buyer. If you know, or anyone else knows of someone else reproducing the Atari board(s) - let us know - there is no need to double up. It is a massive and expensive project.

Thanks mate - Most of the playfield restorers are VERY busy at the moment. I have another one I'm sending to Tim after he has finished an IJ and my personal CV..

Just got my CV back from Scott Seedsman with a restored playfield. Still waiting for my Sunset Riders to return that he got after Pinfest last year.

I don't know of anyone recreating the Atari boards, the person i was thinking of is recreating the LAI boards and i thought it maybe the same person is all.
