flipper staying up after button is released?

Hi guys,

I have been putting some serious game time into my junkyard, and now all of a sudden the left flipper is staying all the way up after I release the button.

I can get it to drop down if I hit the left and right flipper buttons a couple of times.

I swapped the flipper opto boards and the faulkt still occured on the left hand side.

The EOS looks OK, the coil on the left is getting pretty warm compared to the right hand side.

The flipper shaft moves freely, no binding at all.

Any ideas?

next time it sticks try taking the glass off and see if it will drop down if you press down lightly on the end of the flipper.
I just want to check if the coil is staying energized or not.(if you feel strong resistance when you push down on it and it wont go down then we will know that the coil is still on)
i know you said its not binding but just worth a try.
i have 2 pins which have a sticky flipper both of them are the left flipper.

EOS might look OK, but it may not be. Double check this. Sounds dodgy if the left coil is getting warm.

That sounds correct.

The EOS needs adjustment - dead giveaway is the the coil is warm. Could also be the diode on the coil - but the EOS sounds more likely.

OK all fixed now.

I played the machine untill I git the flipper stuck, and then switched off the machine.

It stayed up, so I worked out it was a mechanical fault, not electrical.

It was the return spring not having enough grunt, so I moved it to another position

I played it for 1 hour without any sign of sticking.

Interesting, I was going to mention the return spring but the warmer coil pointed to a different fault.

Maybe you just flip more on the LHS??

well i suppose that was a better way of checking if the coil was still energised than the way i sugested.
As i said before same thing with 2 of my pins both stick on left hand side, both williams, 1 has external spring one has spring on shaft.

could it have been the coil stop and plunger magnetized sticking together, and the extra spring tension is enough to pull them apart now.
