Zinc plating, Geelong

I went to get some stuff replated and my local guy had closed up

Any recommendations for zinc plating places in Geelong?

Classic chrome in Moolap is the only place i know of in Geelong mate

Me too !

You will find most platers moving away from Zinc plating, in favor of Nickel plating. Nickel plating looks more like chrome when polished. The parts I zinc plate were previously zinc, so nickel plating is the incorrect presentation. Any parts previously Chrome, I take to the local plater to nickel plate. But the prices are starting to get higher and higher.

I’ve a couple of ball gates I want to get redone for my LW3, they only small bits and I’ve been holding of as I’m worries as they are small they might get lost by the company doing the plating.


Should I be concerned and just consider painting them myself instead of plating? As there are ok brushed steel look paints avaliable now.

That's why I do my own plating. How big are the parts ? I could plate them for you if they fit in my 30lt plating setup.

Highly unlikely as there is a steep learning curve and you need to be well setup (bench space, safety gear etc). It is satisfying when you can do your own plating, and have a rusted out piece of junk looking almost new the same day !

Are these gate flaps plated or should I use gun blue?

If they are magnetic, they can be plated - which I think would look great. I think they are "blackened" the same as ramp flaps.

I think I will get them chromed
I have 8 gates that i am cleaning up, some of them were originally chromed, but a day in the tumbler has shown that the plating is thin and needs to be redone
