Hi from Lindsay
« on: June 09, 2009, 06:17:09 PM »
Found this site a couple of days ago. I live in Bacchus Marsh near Melbourne. Pins include STNG, Star Wars, Getaway, Judge Dredd, Gorgar, Fire Power, Space Invaders and Alien Poker.
I've been into pinball since I was 7 years old which is about 32 years ago. I grew up in South Africa where pinballs were illegal for most of the 80s. I'm probably one of the few members here who has had a pinball machine confiscated by the cops! They even used to burn them although by the time mine was taken things had started to ease up and we got them back after paying a fine!

It was a Gottlieb Abra Ca Dabra. Single player wedge head. I had it in my mates parents Fish and Chips shop. it would have been around 1988, a lot of operators had started putting pinnies out again in the back of shops as the cops had more important issues to contend with. Then they decided to do a bit of a cleanup! I did get it back though. Early 80s was different, the vice squad was in charge so they'd collect heaps when they found them in the back of stores along with some pokies etc. They'd pile them up on top of confiscated marijuana. I nearly cried watching the news one night when they showed them all ablaze. I clearly remember watching a Fast Draw die! Of course many a pinnie ended up in Mr Plod's house.

Daniel? I never heard back from you after your trip to Bathurst a couple of years ago. Did you get that display problem sorted?

Welcome to Aussie Pinball, great to have you here.

If you get the chance can you please tell us more about the days growing up in SA, were there many games around? What about the before the crackdown, say in the 1970s?

Welcome, that's amazing that they actually confiscated pins.

No such problems here in Australia, I hope.
