ToM trunk issue
« on: July 19, 2009, 04:45:22 PM »
This is not a problem as such, but more of an annoyance that hopefully can be tweaked or resolved. It is known that while the trunk is rotating to reveal the entrance and the ball hits it, the next mission automatically begins. Sometimes doing this can cause the trunk misalign between set positions and stop working. The solution is to perform a "trunk test".

My issue is that more times than not now, if the rotation is interupted by a strike, it becomes inoperable. Before it may occur 1/50 times.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Is it the coindoor connector? hahahha, sorry, wrong thread....

Sounds like a fun one to chase, sounds like a homing sensor/opto? on the trunk rotor or something similar?
or, is it just badly-written software? maybe a rom update?

MM.

I haven't had a chance to look at the trunk opto's and I have recently updated to the home rom setup, but the problem was there before. But I have noticed a further problem today after adding a GI lamp to the ball entry area and testing the machine. Usually you have to hit the trunk 3 times and then shoot into the trunk to start a mission. Well the mission automatically starts on the third hit most times now. Also when I start multiball mode, it sometimes doesn't play the lead up sound effects and I can here the "trunk hit" sound for each trunk face rotation made. So its like the trunk changing faces counts as a ball strike.

So MM I reckon you're onto something but could it be more like the eddy sensor in front of the trunk being too sensitive?

Await any ideas before ripping the trunk apart.

And thanks Mark I'll probably give one of the guys a call this week as well. BTW there was something else I was going to pickup on Saturday but forgot when Ibought all those fighter ships

Where did you add the GI lamp, this could be affecting the optos.

Nice to hear from you Dave. The GI is mounted underneath where the ball enters the playfield. That small ramp where you release the plunger and get the skill shot.

Nah,thought you mounted it near the trunk.
If the trunk is registering random hits then I would be looking at the eddy sensor......it may be a bit flakey. Easy way to test is in switch edges mode and observe. Bang the cab and playfield with your hand and see if it registers a hit.

Yay good to see a fix. Goes to show experience helps!

Never had a machine with an eddy sensor... so much left to learn!

Cheers
