Game Over before Game Over
« on: August 02, 2009, 04:36:32 PM »
Well its about time to solve another EM problem everyone.
Millsys playing his Jumping Jack, finally getting a high score then  ^&^ goes to GAME OVER.
There is only one common occurance when this happens that I have noticed - Seems to only occur when the ball hits the 100 point Pop Bumpers - Any theories.

First theory- check tilt switches, pop bumpers thump the playfield or thump the playfield yourself.
It probably won't be that but it is the easiest to check.
 :2cents:
EM score motors wanted- nonworking, broken, burnt, etc..

Not enough clearance on the contacts of the Game Over Relay,  with impact of Pop Bumpers it makes?  !@#

That's my guess !

Checked the game over relay -checked out ok. As this relay is situated at the floor of the cab and not on the PF,I dont think the problem is movement related, I suspect something is activating this relay during play.
99% sure its related to the pop bumpers - maybe I disconnect the pop bumpers to be 100% sure. I did replace these bumpers with new coils - the new coils had resistors across both terminals (Refer Pict) the coils would only work if i disconnected these resistors - may be related ? Any thoughts on this theory?

Are you sure that is not a diode rather than a resistor?

Thats a diode and is definitely not a good thing to have on an EM coil *.*

If the coils you used to replace the originals had these diodes on them when you got them, they must've been intended for a SS pin. You did the right thing to cut them as they would've been putting a short across the coil.

Just a thought... are the coils the same part number as the originals??

Cheers...Mitch

Just looking at the schematics - Looks like I have fitted A-1496 coils instead of A-1493. Could this be the problem ? ,maybe I will put the old coils back in and see what happens.

Worth a try for sure. I'm not sure but maybe the A-1496 may have lower resistance windings thatn the original coils  !@#

If thats the case it could be causing the problem you're having

Put the original coils back in. A-1496 are a coil common in sys1 and sys80 machines. Diodes are there to protect the driver boards in DC circuits.

You can use A-1496 in an EM, but as you have found out - you need to remove the diode.

fitted old coils back -still resets to game over -definately only happens when pop bumpers activated -back to the drawing board. &^&

Do you have a Slam switch on the playfield Kev?   Bumpers might be opening or closing that causing GAME OVER?

Problem solved (Daniel was close)  @@*
Problem was at the slam switch connected to the start switch at the coin door (Refer Pict.)  $#$
Also the diode fitted at the pop bumper coil is for DC Bumpers (Williams 1972 on,Bally 1975 on)
