FT Topper Illumination experiment
« on: August 19, 2009, 01:32:26 PM »
Decided to clean-up the FT topper today, and replace bulbs. Struck me that blue globes may give a water glow, gotta be better than white anyway. Had some testors model paint in the shed, and thinned it down with turps prob 50/50 (to allow enough light through the bulb glass). Easy job to paint, held them upside-down in a peg (to aviod paint dripping on to the bulb's metal contacts). Yep I need a new bubble for my topper, but that can wait.

I think it looks ok:

IPDB pic of a normal FT topper:

Ok- its well documented that I am not a big fan of any machine toppers - but I must admit that looks pretty bloody good to be honest.

Nice difference from the original.

It looks great....u dont realise how good a fishtales topper looks till u replace the globes with bright ones... cant wait to see the effect at night...

I will try putting different ones in mine and see how it turns out..thank u for the good idea..... ^^^

I reckon we shld start a "Topper thread" and everyone who likes toppers can post photos of theirs....good to get ideas from. yours looks great. ^^^

much better, I light coloured globes and have even replaced the clear globes that have the silcon cover over them. In most cases the coloured globe looks better I reckon
Still loving my Metallica Premium

Agreed!  I normally would go LED's for any lighting change - but in this case I think the softness if perfect and gives it a really nice aqua look!

Although an orange LED in the fish eye would look good!
