Nut stuck
« on: August 29, 2009, 01:35:33 PM »
Hey all.

Anyone got any good ideas for removing a nut that is burred !@#

This is the nut that clamps the flipper shaft tight on Scared Stiff - it is burred and I cant remove it - it WONT budge.
I have tried to grab it with some decent pliers and nothings moving.

Its in a fairly awkward place to get a good grip on it.

Any help guys?

Wotto, maybe unsolder the coil and take the whole assembly out. put it in a vice, position they way you wish and then all you have to worry about is getting the nut/screw out !

No further damage to any other parts and as much leverage as you wish...

Is the flipper shaft still connected?  Not sure you'll be able to remove the assembly with it still in.

I've had success with a set of lock-grips before.  Is there any sign of locktight on there too?  Sometimes a bit of heat can help too.

Trouble is - the flipper is in place so I cant get the assembly out anyway  ^&(

Try drilling a hole into the nut, then use something as a lever to undo it...

Or maybe use an angle grinder and cut the bloody thing off &&

I would use a 2" cut off wheel (thin blade, stainless if you ahve one) and cut down the length of the nut, the use a screwdriver to pry open the nut.

This will work and you will not damage the threaded section at all if you take  your time with the cut

Cheers Angelo

Flipper nut would be a m6 or 1/4"? Just about reef on it until it breaks the end off the bolt - wont be that strong!

Probably way too late - did you try tightening it further before loosening it?

If you are squeezing that tight on a nut that small it has probably distorted anyway! See angle grinder comment above!  !*!
