pop bumper rebuild

Never rebuilt pop bumpers and need to at least replace the skirts on one of my machines. Is there any tricks to successfully disassembling and reassembling pop bumpers? I've tried things in the past only to find out from people here better ways to tackle a task and minimize stress.

I have one needing to be done myself, and am unsure about tackling it.

First i undo the two nuts holding the Ring to the coil then unscrew that coil bracket and let it hang.
Then i unsolder the lamp wires and unscrew the bumper from the topside of the playfield and it should lift off.
Then gently pull the plastic section off the bottom of the bumper body and it should all fall apart then

Also depends on the type of lamp socket too.  I've always had difficulty with the metal strip types and can be a pain to get out.  I've always replaced them with the later type:

that would be great thanks. Also how do you adjust them correctly and test them while adjusting. Obviously you can't activate them with a ball while the playfield is in the up position so the reason for my question

Have you got yourself a tumbler yet Rob?  Good for cleaning pop bumper parts (metal).

Seems full on at first but after a few you can do it with your eyes closed.

Spend some money and buy new skirts, bumper bodies, caps, coil sleeves and lamp sockets at a min

Pull all the metal parts out and soak in Kero and then clean.

Just did 4 of them on a Gottlieb Rack a Ball from 1962 today....fun times

No gotta get one I suppose. Nearer to th etime I'll get in touch and find out what you have and where to get it. The bonus also is that I can leave it running outside at night and piss one my nasty neighbour off. She has even complained once that my pinball made too much noise when the ball hit the pop bumpers.

Amazing mate. If my first rebuild goes without a hitch I will owe you big time. Thank you very much. BTW you guys from Geelong (ktm450, pinnie4me etc) must have some great looking resto's after seeing some of your work. Gotta make the effort to go to a Geelong meet one day and see these machines
