MM - Urgent help required!!
« on: December 20, 2009, 12:19:50 AM »
Went to start up and clean my MM ready for tommorows BBQ with friends when the backbox lit up but no playfield lights or dot matrix.

Machine power is on and backbox on- thats it!

Checked fuses ok!

LED 104 not on

What next? Need to get ready as the boys were hanging for weeks to see this machine in action!!

What recommendations?

Did you pull the fuses OUT of their clips to measure them?
Measuring them "still in the machine" will give you false readings of an 'OK fuse', because you're actually still measuring transformer windings, which make a 'blown' fuse still measure as a 'short' (fuse OK, false reading)......(this catches everyone out).

You'll need to lift just one-end of each fuse out of it's clip, then re-measure the fuse-ends....within seconds you should find a blown fuse. (assuming the fault is a blown fuse, and not something deeper in the system).
Perhaps also try unplugging/re-plugging the connectors on your boards in the backbox, probably one connection is intermittent that is causing your fault.....TRy to locate the connectors that carry the transformer wiring onto the power-supply board etc....these go intermittent a lot.

You might even notice the machine come to life by merely jiggling the wires slightly on each connector.

Is Led104 labelled what it does??
Do u have the manual handy (or a download), to see if Led104 is a supply rail like +5volts or +12volts etc etc??

Sorry, i don't know MM at all (inside), but checking the above 2 suggestions will probably solvew your prob in time for the BBQ. ;-)

Hope it helps.
MM.

Check the ribbon connector from the CPU board to the Driver board.

Have a quick read of this - see if it helps ;

Have you checked the voltages at the driver board with a DMM?

LED 104 is your flashlamp power, check fuse 107 and connector J128.

This shouldnt cause the other problems your describing.  Are Leds 100, 101, 102 and 103 lit? 101 is 5v dc, 102 18vdc, 103 is 12 VDC unregulated and 100 is 12 v regulated.  Then report back

Also when you said LED 104 is off, did you have the coin door open?  If so shut it and tell us if it comes on as the coin door opens the high voltage soliniod power which includes the Flash lamps.  As such if you open the coin door LED104 will go out once the capacitor discharges.

Sounds like a faulty bridge rectifier.  You need to test between Pins 1 and 4 of J128.  Should have 16 volts AC.

This shouldnt stop the game from working however, it only supplys the Flash lamps.

What LEDs are on, on the CPU?

I think it's time you sought some professional help from a local repairman. Replacing boards 'willy nilly' is a waste of time and money.

I am sure it is a reasonably easy fix but it seems you don't have the technical ability to sort the problem.

Best to ask a pin repairer to call and you might be surprised how inexpensive it is to repair.

Don't go throwing money at the game when it could be a simple connector issue !
