Angelo's pinball collection
« on: December 10, 2008, 11:48:21 PM »
Hi guys,

This is my small collection of pinballs.

As a teenager I was never allowed to go to the pinnys, I had never played a pinball till earlier this year.

I started with an absolutely mint Dr Dude from Mark C, fully shopped and as I was not after a particular pinball, all I went with was the best quality and best condition I could afford at the time.  The cabinet was unmarked, the playfield was factory mylared and I was quite spolit for a firsat pinball.
After playing the heck out of it for a couple of weeks, I was quite frustrated with it, if you have ever played a Dr Dude, the flippers seem to be too far apart, not a biggineers pinball for sure. That was August the 1st this year.

As Mark C has stated many a time, you cannot stop at one pinball.

By Sepetember the 18th, I was unloading my second pinball. The Getaway High Speed II purchased from a local operator.
The playfield was excellent, the known faults were the missing DMD, missing a pop up bumper coil, the bottom flipper did not function, the supercharger did not spin the pinball quick enough and the cabinet was split in the front.

This was to be my first project, and along the way I have learnt many things. I purchased it mainly on the condition of the playfield, the Fliptronics II was my first repair (faulty transistor) and I sorted through most of the other issues execpt for the supercharger.

I had to come to Melbourne from Bendigo for a work meeting, and I dropped off the Getaway to Mark C to have a look at it for me.
Just as well, it took Mark and the boys over 6 hours to get the problem sorted, great guys, looked after me heaps with this!

I have the decal set sitting in the corner for the Getaway from Illinois Pinball, and will rebuild the cabinet soon.

I was hit pretty hard by this pinball addiction by now, and come November the 26th I am Silverball's warehouse picking up my Indy 500.

The machine was not as I or Silverball expected, but the price was better than all  right and with a some TLC will come up nicely.

So far I have gone through what I call the operator "ghetto" repairs (twist and tape) and replaced the three mismatched flipper coils with genuine ones and am waiting for parts to rebuild the illuminated drop targets.

The great thing is that I have three pinballs that all play well now, and enjoy just banging away in the shed.

Thanks heaps to Mark C and Silverball  for hooking me up.

The following is a link to most of the pics.

Great intro there, nice read!

Three machines makes you officially a collector!

Good write up and collection Angelo.

I have a Dr Dude as well, good fun pinball. My six year old son loves it. It is my most reliable pinball as well. Have had it for three years and have never had any problems at all with it.

And then came the forth pinball, purchased from a collector in Geelong this week.

Unmarked cabinet, perfect playfield, Australian delivered machine with the original manuals in the original envelope.

Even the Hunter ship had been removed and placed in the box incase of damage!

The only issue is that the NRI mech gives 2 plays for a $1 coin (probably needs reprograming as I put it in my Getaway and it does the same thing)

All it needs is a good playfield clean and a set of white rubbers which I ordered today.

Angelo,

You should be very proud (and I'm sure you are) with these games.

Thanks for sharing and I really enjoyed reading your story.

Now do yourself a favour and get a nice EM  :lol

Another beautiful game for your collection, Angelo  #*#

I have a "soft spot" for T2 - I love the movie and it is just a really cool pinball. I agree with Tony - You need an EM !

I agree with Tony as well, but know that early SS games are alot more fun than EMs!

Kinda funny - But a while ago - I sort of experienced a "plateau" - Where I mistakenly though that I would not actively chase any more keeper pins.

Then Mark's "Super Score" hit eBay - and I REALLY want a "Super Score" - But it was not going to happen..Too many pins..

But looking at Angelo's machines - T2 AND Getaway - I remember playing them, and they HAVE to be the better of the Williams machines made in that era. Both his machines look really nice...Not too hard for the beginner to play, and not too easy for the enthusiast..

Angelo - make sure you post a picture of the two games next to each other.. #*#

Great looking T2 Angelo!

You're a lucky man having a full set of playfield plastics unbroken!  I love my T2 and it gets played almost daily.

The best thing I EVER did for my T2 was to swap out the playfield insert globes with coloured LED's.  I also swapped the skull eyes for red LED's too.  It really changed the gameplay and made it super bright and fun!

I forgot how heavy the Dr Dude was to get up a 3m flight of stairs!

All are together in the workshop now.
