Getaway HSII Flipper coils?
« on: January 16, 2010, 02:35:14 PM »
I want to replace the flipper coils on my HSII, I think they may be lacking some power/response compared to some new ones, especially the top flipper. Would someone mind helping me and telling me which ones I need exactly? Any help greatly appreciated... :)

By the way, tech came over the other night and fixed faulty supercharger (loose wire, only two coils working) and changed my ROM to version 2, changed the specials from free games to extra balls, and managed to get 390 million on about my third game! Loving this game even more now its more rewarding! :)

cheers

From the manual - the lower left and right coils are FL-11629.   The upper right is FL-11630.

The EOS switches may be out of adjustment - causing lack of power.

I generally put a full rebuild kit through mine and only replace coils if they are no good.  New coil sleeve are a must - but check the flipper bushes as well.

Thanks Marty, I should have checked the manual!

I'll try to suss out the EOS switches, not too sure what to do there, but I'll do a search and see if I can figure it out.

I've just emailed RTBB requesting some full rebuild kits.

If you unplug the power - remove the balls (important) and lift the playfield.  If you move the flipper bat by hand - when it reaches the end of its travel (ie end of stroke) on the underside of the flipper you should see the crank arm either open the switch or close the switch...I can't remember if they are normally open or closed!

Hope this makes sense.

Marty is absolutely correct, you dont need to buy new coils, they either work or dont work, you need to rebuild the flippers  *%*

Just had a look at the EOS switches, and on 2 of the flippers, right bottom flip and top flip, the contact is geting closed quite a distance before the flipper has reached the end of its travel. Would this explain some of the weakness in the flippers??

Definately will help if you adjust them, still worth rebuilding them too. Nothing beats freshly rebuild snappy flippers  *%*

I've ordered all the parts for the rebuild. Just wondering, what is the main part change that actually changes them from being kinda sluggish to snappy and responsive?

I got all the parts from RTBB, but in the end I treated the pin and went with brand new whole flipper assemblies. Just put them in tonight, and yes, they are heaps snappier, and have more power as well, especially the top flipper. Next on my list is getting the Kickback to hit the extra ball/burn rubber/video mode hole more often than not, as most of the time it currently misses. Machine is levellled to what the manual suggests, and dead level across the playfield, so not sure what the problem is...

...and my supercharger gate is getting slack again. Have sourced a whole new ramp assy, may spring for that...

You can adjust the guide by loosening the screw and moving it

+1.  Have a look at the metal guide rail where the ball runs against when kicked out.  As KTM450 suggested there is a screw (into the playfield) which you can loosen (phillips head normally) and just tickle the ramp either left or right until it hits the sweet spot.

Re the supercharger gate...Not sure what you mean.  Is it opening not quick enough?

If you mean it is dropping down take it out and either install new rivets or mushroom the heads down tighter again

Thanks for the tips, I will check that metal guide for the kickback later, I didn't actually know it was adjustable, it certainly doesn't appear to be when you look at it from above.

The supercharger gate is getting slack as its gets fairly whacked everytime the balls whiz around, needs to be adjusted back more when its open, although I did this not that long ago. Also, it doesn't close quick enough sometimes once the balls have finished their circuit, and the balls whack into the gate as its trying to close...

Not sure what you mean guys? Is it hidden somewhere? I cant see any screw to adjust either on top of or below the playfield. Any comments welcome.
