Left slingshot dead
« on: March 14, 2010, 03:13:08 AM »
Heyo my learned friends!

So tonight during a game of Jurassic Park the left slingshot decided to stop working. Cant think of anything that would have caused it and have had a look about to see if anything is screaming out as being out of place or incorrect but nothing seems to appear that way.

Is there a common cause or fault i should be looking for before i continue tinkering around? The right one still works fine.

Thanks as always,

Steve

First thing to look for is either a wire broken off the coil or more sneaky is the actual end of the enamelled copper wire can snap from the terminal - that takes a little bit of close inspection. If the enamelled wire is broken it's normally an easy fix, just unwrap one turn, scrape away the enamel and solder it back on to the terminal.

A tip - look for the easy and obvious things first!!!!!!!

The slings get alot of use, 9 times out of 10 it's a broken wire,or a broken plunger link (piece of plastic that connects plunger to kicker arm)  ^^^

Also have a look at the switch/contacts behind the rubber on the slingshot as well - check it isn't damaged and is making proper contact.  It should only be something relatively simple.

in addition - check that the sling can move by manually activating it by hand.

Ok guys have taken all the wonderful advice and still cant seem to get this one sorted. I have checked all the wires to ensure none have snapped and all seem to be intact and well soldered/connected. The plunger arm happily moves when pushed by hand and as far as i can see everything appears bang on the same as the right side.

I shall continue to tinker away - thanks again for all the help!

Have you checked this?

Is the coil firing during test mode?

Yep the coil is firing in test mode, from what i can see the switch/contacts appears as it should. Will fiddle around with it some more

switch matrix issue?? diode on the switch broken? many wires in the matrix are 'daisy chained' so it could be possible that a common wire is broken off a switch elsewhere causing the slig sw to not work?

Problem solved!!

Big thanks to MartyJ for all his help on getting this sorted for me.   @@* @@*

Turns out there was a nice chunk of loose solder in the switch that was causing it not to register. Maybe time to turn off that shaker motor!  #@#

Happy to help out.  A bit of solder had dropped down from the top resting in between the two leaf's of the switch (causing it to open constantly) - thus the sling switch not working.

Glad the JP is back up and running.   ^^^
