Clear coat Gold Legs ??
« on: March 29, 2010, 09:22:30 AM »
Is it worth while to clear coat gold legs ,bolts Side Armour etc etc to preserve them from potential tarnishing ?
Not sure what to do ?
I noticed at Bunnings there's a White Knight Clear coat Product used for Brass,Gold platting to stop tarnishing .
Has anyone done this and what's the results ? !@#

Cheers Tony

Hi Tony,

I wouldnt use can paint (single pack) is not strong enough.
Use 2 pack clear much harder and seals better.
More expensive but worth doing.

The largest plating company in queensland, located on the gold coast, uses the product you mentioned ANT for the legs. I have seen the fellow use it when i picked up gold plated stuff before. do not get dribble marks from excessive spray or you run the risk of stuffing it up.

2 pack for the lockdown bar is a neccessity as ACE has suggested. much more durable.

I'll speak with my spray painter and see what he recommends.

I have also seen some plating people use the can product, however I think this may only be for convenience.

For long term durability, I'd be only looking at 2K clear.
