FINALLY SOME PROGRESS ON MY MONARO

Well ive finally made some progress on my Monaro the replacement lower quarter panel has been welded in ready for me to start the body work again.  Im very pissed of and maybe a bit paranoid someone has spilt something on one side and had started to show signs of rust under the primer so im going to strip it back to bare metal again just to be on the safe side. All that work i previously did will all be gone  !!!  Better to be safe than sorry   #*#

First pic is the newly installed lower quarter obviously still needs work.

Second Pic is one of the sills back to bare metal

Third pic is a spare door to show how big the doors are on these things taller than my 9 year old son

And i must thank Mark C for letting me take his for a spin was a nudge in the right direction  ^^^

Never realised that those monaro doors were so huge

Just watched Topgear and they had the latest model vette on the salt flats in Bonneville in the usa BLODDY AWESOME!!!!

I hope to do a hotrod/muscle car restore one day, keep up the good work  ^^^

Thanks Guys was originally a 253 but ditched that in favor of some chevy muscle and none of that 350 rubbish.

Stepped it upto a 400 with flat top pistons double hump fuellie head ported polished and angle decked.   Turbo 350 into a dirty old Ford 9inch.    I kept a standard manifold as i was planning on driving it on my P plates  @.@  I really need to upgrade not sure if ill go tunnel rams for looks or a nice alloy edelbrock performer.    Sadly a blower is out of the question the compression would be to high  !!!

Dirty 9"? Well put the banjo back in then? At least the centres are light...  :lol

When I was a younger man - we used to fit copper head gaskets to drop the compression of turbo or supercharging...

You can run straight LPG at a higher compression - it works better that way!

Being a SBC you can buy anything anywhere for 'em and cheap. ('er than a 308 anyway)

Rams are a dog unless you go hi-stall - it will bog down until it gets rolling. Get the carbs set and balanced on a rolling dyno - best money you will ever spend!

If you run the standard converter go the dual-plane manifold - much nicer to drive.

I ran a ZK with a stroked 351 and hi-stall - I ripped the converter out and went standard, too hairy in the wet (and this is a LWB fairlaine), and the effing drone drove me nuts!

This was after I had spent $1200 on dyno time to get it set up perfect with the hi-stall... Back to carby better for another $600 bucks worth...

What are you guys running? Premium unleaded?

What about the valve train - do you still have to run a upper-cyl lube kit?

I recall it was a big headf*** when they canned leaded fuel? <bloody tree huggers, piss, moan, grumble...>

My engine was built to run straight LPG so the greenies should be happy enough with that but the tyre smoke might be another issue  %.%.   

    Ive gone both methods getting hardened valve seat installed and the upper cylinder lubricant method.  And never had any problems the firewall kits are the best hook them up fill them with the lube and check once a month.

A ford man like me knows exactly what a ZK 1983 Ford Fairlaine is.  ^^^
I had a 351 ZJ Sportsman. It went like a bat outta hell when i did some work to it.

But today, my next car will be a slightly used Benz hopefully. I like the sporty look. Getting mellow in my old age. Nothing compares to a nice V8but. ^^^

I have to run the higher octane premium unleaded and add some valve lubricant to the tank when filling, a bit of a pain in the ass but I don't drive it that often so no biggy.
What pisses me off though it that leaded fuel is not as bad as all the clapped out cars with under performing cat coverters pumping all the unleaded chemicals into the environment.
I think the word 'lead' frightens greenies maybe  !@#

Agree - and the shit they put in ULP to make it work is pretty out there!



Straight LPG is cool - but we used to run into flow problems with the lock-off valves, you couldn't get one big enough that was ADR approved. (this was 18 years ago!)

Mate used to do the proto's for gas research (his conversion business used to be the closest to GR) - he screwed a SBC stroker together. Twin gas research carbs, twin tanks, mixers - the works! short tunnel ram for the twin setup, solid cam, 13:1 compression - real top shelf everything... In a rodeo ute - babyshit brown, with standard rims and hubcaps... (He did custom paint later on) Classic - sideways in any gear...

I know he did a VL turbo with port injection 16 odd years ago? That technology is only really starting to take off recently AFAIK?
