Sound board problems
« on: April 09, 2010, 08:37:58 AM »
I have a fishtales that started to have no sound - was working perfectly, and i switched it off mid game, then turned back on a few days later with nothing. I reseated all the cables and it would work for the 1st few seconds of a game, then nothing. I put a working sound board in and it worked fine, then put the old one back in and same problem (works for a few seconds then off - sometimes a constant tone till the end of the ball, then nothing).

On closer inspection the 680 pF capacitor C28 had disappeared completely!!!! ie: the two solder wires were there but there was just a black smear underneath where the cap used to be....

I replaced this cap (from what i understand a ceramic cap has no polarity?), also the 125k ohm resistor beside it that got injured in the explosion, as well as the 7912 voltage regulator (U3).

I put the 'repaired' board back in and now i just get a ticking noise (about every second or so) - what else should i look at replacing, or testing, and how?

Thanks

Rob
