Replacing/Exchanging Power plug

Hey guys,

Picked up my new project from Oscar yesterday at a great price (thanks Oscar and i'll be posting a thread soon).

When i got the game home, the European plug adaptor had be cut off, leaving me with exposed Black, Green and White wires.

Obviously i need to replace the connector anyway (to suit Australia), so i was just wondering what each colour represents, as the Australian code is different to the US (Is it safe to assume the cord from the factory?)

The transformer jumpering was already completed to suit Australian 240v, and thanks to MartyJ for confirming that for me against one of his pins.

If a US game, I suspect white will be neutral, black active and green earth. US is the only country I can think of that used white in AC cords.

Nicks diagram is what you need to follow. I always change the plug (through necessity if the machine is an import), and if the cable is frayed or looks damaged, I replace that as well. I bought 100M of cable for the sole reason to replace the cables on ALL my EMs. You can buy the plugs from bunnings.

I'd examine the wiring inside the pin cabinet;

• What colour is connected to the earth braid (the sort of woven bare wire that runs to all exposed metal, side rails, leg bolt plates, coin door etc). most likely the green and so this will be the earth.  I'd verify this with a multimeter, testing for continuity
• find the line fuse - the first fuse that either your black or white wire goes to, this will be before the transformer and is likely to be near the line filter (a little silver box), this will be the active
• the other wire will be the neutral

The diagram below shows the plug connections and current plugs that meet standards are marked in this way.  A way to remember how to wire up a plug is the acronym "CLEAN"  When viewed from the back (the wiring side) of the plug the connections are, going CLockwise, Earth, Active Neutral.  The earth is the pin that stands up vertically. The corresponding wire colours are green/yellow for earth, brown for active and blue for neutral.

Thanks for all the help and assistance guys,

Took every precaution, and got the machine powered up  . Cant wait to start stripping the playfield to get this machine back in shape.

Before i powered the game, i noticed that there was a black burnt area on the extra power connector that is mounted in the AC Filter box. I unscrewed the socket and desoldered it from the machine as i figured i wont be needing it for anything. Upon closer inspection, it looks like this may have been causing problems for the person who had it before me, as there was a break on one of the contacts, which had bridged the live and neutral sockets. This could have posed a much bigger problem if it werent for me noticing the black burn mark. Also, it was a GREAT reminder never rush to get a game powered up, take all precautions and have a really close look over your purchase.
