plastic 80's ramp fix
« on: June 10, 2010, 04:29:32 PM »
Well one of the plastic ramps on my 80's Williams machine shattered when I was testing my latest aquisition.
Disappointed, I did a quick search on the net found one for $132 plus postage in Melbourne.
Too rich for my blood I'm afraid!
So I did a bit of research and found a bloke somewhere had repaired his with a fibreglass kit.
Nothing ventured, I decided to give it a shot as the ramp was history anyhow.
Headed to Bunnings and found a Selleys fibreglass repair kit, superglued the shattered ramp
bits into place and hit the whole outside of it with the fibreglass.
Came up OK but a bit 'rough'.
Next day I hit it with another coat of the epoxy and it dried very smooth.
The inside of the ramp was a bit dodgy, so I applied a very light coat of epoxy to that with a hobby type
paint brush.
Worked a treat.
The added bonus I didn't expect was that the fibreglass kit dried 100% clear and I don't have to paint anything,
it is impossible to tell where it had epoxy and where it didn't.
Even though I had to sand the plastic first, the colour came back as good as new where the epoxy was.
Hopefully this may be of help to someone else who is unsure what would happen.
Cheers

Lets go Brandon!
