Anyone ever stripped and re-done this section
« on: June 19, 2010, 02:15:19 PM »
Hi all,

Curious if anyone has ever succesfully been able to ( I guess the word is ) 'strip' and then totally restore the plain 'wood' sections on older playfields  as indicated by my example shot below.
This is my old totem and is JUST and example of what I am talking about.

I am curious if there is a process to completely restore this area in order to get the shooter channel clean again and also rid the playfield of the ball arch 'run' and I am talking about getting it all off and then re-clearing it so that it appears with the same look / stain.

Cheers

Hi, I actually hate this as well. Have found that sandpaper is not great when you get close to the art. A better option is  the old removable blades they used to use in mens shavers (wilshire). These are flexible and you can shave off the the old lacquer and carefully cut around the art. Sounds hard but is pretty easy but fairly slow. Here is an example on a quickdraw field around the flippers, also did the arch etc. john

That's impressive work, John - Well done !

The best I can do is use Magic Eraser or sand it back as others have suggested.
