Do you catalog your collection?

Do you catalog your collection?

While writing up my bio last week, there was time when I had wished that I had the exact date as to when I bought some pins

Creature, for example, the date was based on that I remembered there was a T3 in the showroom, so I guessed either the year that came out or the year after

I am thinking that I might catalog my collection, keeping notes on;

Name of game
Date made
Serial number
Date purchased
Significant changes, playfield swap, new circuit boards

Any thoughts? !@#

I don't, but I want to maintain a catalog and also update the Serial Number database - http://www.ipsnd.net/

I would also like to lookup the database to see if any of my machines were pre owned by collectors. I keep all the paperwork that I find in the machines such as logs and additional score cards.

I have a few of my game listed, but I do not really see a point in having an online database of serial numbers

All I find is burned out bulbs and broken rubbers  :D

I keep a spreadsheet with a tab for each machine. On this I record all details, such as when bought, how much, details of what repairs and work I've done. Also have a section on what bits I've bought and what I want - helps a lot when you order so you don't forget bits.

Also keep a directory on the pc for each machine for any info, manuals, cards, schematics, links etc that relate to the machine.

I keep full logs on my Pins ,I have personlly imported alot of my pins so I keep full tabs of cost, parts ,mods etc etc .
Each pin has a folder just inside the coin door with it's history .

I keep all my machines listed on the IPDB serial number database because I like to
a) keep the numbers up to date for other collectors on that data base
b) keep every detail logged somewhere for insurance claim details etc
c) but more importantly, if some mongrel breaks in and decides to steal any of my machines, if i saw any machines matching mine, being sold somewhere, i could play detective before breaking a few arms n legs.lol

I reckon the ipdb serial number database is excellent. well worth the effort.

Me either  :lol :lol id probably get scared at the amount i spend on each machine i restore!! though i'll be its not as much as some of you guys spend on repairing/restoring your games.

Having said that, i HAVE kept receipts and parts invoices for most of the things i've bought over the years for each game.. i just havent added them up for the reason mentioned above  :lol

Its an interesting idea though i must say.
